KARACHI: Renowned Pakistani actor Gohar Rasheed has sparked discussion with his bold take on marriage, advising individuals to consider tying the knot only after they’ve achieved personal goals and let go of worldly temptations.
Speaking during a recent appearance on a private talk show, Rasheed emphasized that marriage is not a casual commitment but a serious responsibility that requires emotional readiness, maturity, and preparation not just financial stability.
“If you have any worldly desire left, fulfill it first, and then you should get married, because marriage demands commitment. Marriage is a responsibility and hard work,” Rasheed stated.
“No one prepares us for marriage. Everyone just says, ‘Sign the Nikkah papers, and you are married.’ But it’s much more than that.”
“Don’t say later that I couldn’t achieve my dreams because I got married. What is the wife’s fault in that?”
Gohar Rasheed pointed out a major gap in how young men are raised and trained for adulthood, especially in relation to marriage. According to him, parental guidance often focuses only on career and financial aspects, leaving young men ill-prepared for the emotional and practical demands of a marital relationship.
He called for a shift in mindset, encouraging families to start educating boys not just on job responsibilities but also on how to manage a life partnership with respect and understanding.
Rasheed also acknowledged the transformative impact of marriage on his own life, sharing heartfelt insights about his relationship with fellow actor Kubra Khan. “Many things change in life after marriage; there has been a significant change in my and Kubra’s life,” he said, highlighting how the bond has brought growth and stability.
Opening up about their love story, Rasheed revealed that his proposal was initially turned down by Kubra Khan. “I was in love, and Kubra initially rejected my proposal. I had to wait for her to say yes,” he shared. “I remained persistent, and she finally said yes. She is a blessing that is now in my life.”
The actor’s message to the youth was clear: don’t rush into marriage as an escape or obligation. Instead, approach it with purpose, preparation, and an open heart.
