Colombo: In a politically charged face-off, arch-rivals India and Pakistan are set to meet today in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. With tense diplomatic relations and lingering controversy from the Asia Cup, all eyes are on how both teams will conduct themselves on and off the field at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The group stage match kicks off at 2:30 PM Pakistan time (09:30 GMT). While fans anticipate a fierce on-field contest, the pre-match buzz is once again dominated by questions surrounding the teams’ interaction particularly the possibility of a repeat of the “no handshake” policy that drew backlash during the men’s Asia Cup.

“I can’t assure you of handshakes or greetings,” said BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, refusing to guarantee traditional gestures of sportsmanship. “Our stance toward this country hasn’t changed.”

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana responded calmly: “We are aware of the outside noise, but our focus is the cricket. The World Cup is a dream for every player.”

In previous tournaments, India and Pakistan have occasionally shared friendly gestures post-match. But given the recent controversies that spirit may not fully appear today.

The match is likely to attract substantial viewership across South Asia and beyond. However, rain could affect proceedings with forecasts indicating overcast skies and the possibility of light showers in morning and evening sessions.

Team India:

India are expected to name an unchanged playing XI following their strong win against Sri Lanka.

Predicted XI:
Pratika Rawal, Smriti Mandhana, Harleen Deol, Harmanpreet Kaur (captain), Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh (wk), Amanjot Kaur, Sneh Rana, Kranti Goud, Shree Charani.

Team Pakistan:

Pakistan may stick with the same lineup that lost to Bangladesh, though Aroob Shah could be drafted in for Natalia Pervaiz due to her current form.

Predicted XI:
Muneeba Ali, Omaima Sohail, Sidra Amin, Rameen Shamim, Aliya Riaz, Sidra Nawaz (wk), Fatima Sana (captain), Natalia Pervaiz / Aroob Shah, Diana Baig, Nashra Sandhu, Sadia Iqbal.
