International Day of Non-Violence observed worldwide

On October 2, the world comes together to observe the International Day of Non-Violence, a day dedicated to promoting peace, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. This observance highlights the importance of resolving conflicts through dialogue and understanding instead of violence.

Established by the United Nations in 2007 through resolution A/RES/61/271, the day aims to spread the message of non-violence, reaffirm its global significance, and nurture a culture of peace and mutual respect worldwide.

Supported by key international agreements like the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, non-violence remains central to achieving global justice and human dignity. Treaties focused on violence prevention and counter-terrorism further strengthen these efforts.

Unfortunately, many regions including Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Myanmar, and Palestine continue to face severe violence and human rights abuses, heavily affecting civilian populations.

In contrast, countries such as Norway, Sweden, Finland, and certain South Asian areas prioritize non-violence, rule of law, and social justice, serving as models for peaceful societies.

Around the world, civil society, educators, and human rights activists mark this day with seminars, awareness campaigns, and peaceful events to inspire younger generations to embrace non-violent solutions and tolerance.
