Sixteen years have passed since the untimely demise of Nusrat Thakur, one of Pakistan’s most revered drama producers and directors. His unparalleled contribution to the country’s television industry continues to resonate, as his work remains cherished by audiences and industry professionals alike.

Born in 1937 in Lahore, Nusrat Thakur began his career in the media industry with Radio Pakistan before making a pivotal move to Pakistan Television (PTV).

Starting as a Duty Officer, he quickly advanced within the organization, initially serving as an Assistant Producer, and later, as a full-fledged Producer. His dedication and skill led to his appointment as the General Manager for PTV’s Lahore Centre.

Nusrat Thakur is best remembered for his exceptional work in the world of Pakistani drama. His directorial and production talents helped shape some of the most iconic television dramas in the country’s history.

His breakthrough came with the critically acclaimed drama serial ‘Waris’ (The Heir), written by Amjad Islam Amjad. Although the serial was originally directed by Ghazanfar Ali, Nusrat Thakur took over the responsibility midway through the series and turned it into a classic that remains etched in the memories of Pakistani television audiences.

Nusrat Thakur passed away on November 7, 2009, in Lahore. He was laid to rest in the Lahore Cantt graveyard, leaving behind a rich legacy that continues to inspire future generations of drama producers and directors.
