27th Constitutional Amendment Should Table in Senate Before National Assembly: Ishaq Dar
Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar has proposed that the 27th Constitutional Amendment should first be presented in the Senate before being taken to the National Assembly. He said this was his personal suggestion and that the government should give it serious consideration.
Speaking on the Senate floor, Ishaq Dar stated that the government would hold consultations with its coalition partners regarding the amendment. He emphasized that the amendment would not be passed in haste and that the government was committed to moving forward in consensus with its allies.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that the final draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment would be presented soon. He also stressed that the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate was necessary, noting that the opposition leader is an important part of the House.
Dar urged the Senate Chairman to ensure that the process is completed according to the rules. He further said that the constitutional amendment was not being introduced abruptly, as the government planned to engage with stakeholders and legal forums before finalizing it.
It is worth mentioning that the government has already decided to move ahead with the 27th Constitutional Amendment and has sought the support of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for its passage.
