Stray dog attacks leave children injured on Karachi University campus

Karachi: In a disturbing incident this morning, two children were attacked by stray dogs on the Karachi University campus.

A five-year-old boy suffered serious facial injuries after being mauled, while a young girl, Hoorain, was bitten on the foot. The attacks occurred near the campus clinic, raising urgent safety concerns for students and visitors.

The university’s medical officer confirmed the incidents in a report to the administration, emphasizing the severity of the injuries and calling for immediate measures to manage stray dogs on campus.

This is not the first such incident. A few months ago, a first-year Food Science student sustained head injuries after panicking during an encounter with stray dogs on the university premises.

Outside Karachi University, attacks by stray dogs have had tragic outcomes. Recently, an eight-year-old boy, Shehbaz, was killed by a pack of stray dogs while walking home in Basti Mardan. His body was later recovered from nearby fields, underscoring the growing threat posed by stray dogs.

The problem is widespread. According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), 7,815 dog bite cases were reported nationwide last week alone, highlighting the urgent need for public safety measures and awareness campaigns.

Authorities and citizens are now calling for stricter control of stray dogs and preventive actions to protect children and the general public.
