Law Ministry of Pakistan has on Wednesday finalized the draft of new National Accountability Ordinance (NAB) amendment ordinance.

According to the details the new draft states that government has taken back some powers of NAB Chairman including unrestrained powers to issue arrest orders. NAB also cannot declare any place as a sub-jail.

NAB’s jurisdiction over matters relating to tax duty curtailed and investigations and inquires which underway will transferred to concerned institutions.

Wife, children, brother and sister will not be included in ‘unnamed category’ and children who are non-filers themselves will only considered dependent.

Under the changes, the accountability bureau will no longer be probing corruption-related matters that do not involve a sum of at least Rs1 billion. The federal cabinet will also be exempt from NAB inquires.

The reference to the Anti Money Laundering Act 2010 will be removed from the official schedule of the NAB Ordinance. The bureau will also have to change procedures into cases involving public office holders.

The prosecutor-general of the body will appointed by the consultation of the prime minister and the opposition leader, the amendment states.
