Locusts Update: The National Locust Control Center (NLCC) has announced that the affected 5,245 sq km area of 46 districts of the country has been cleared from locusts.
According to the details, during the last 24 hours in Punjab, operations were carried out on 71 hectares of land in Mianwali and Dera Ghazi Khan districts against locusts and a survey of 114,935 hectares have also been conducted. The joint survey and operation were completed by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, the Department of Agriculture, and the Pakistan Army with the help of 279 vehicles and 2,275 personnel.

According to the NLCC, an area of 86,12,267 hectares has been surveyed while operation has been carried out on 1,74,460 hectares of affected land in Punjab. Operations against Locusts were also carried out on 667 hectares of land in Jamshoro, Matiari, and Hyderabad in Sindh.
During the last 24 hours, a survey was conducted on 49,811 hectares in Sindh. So far 32 lakh 76 thousand 415 hectares of land have been surveyed while 41 thousand 739 hectares of land have been cleared from locusts.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 80,580 hectares of land were surveyed, while the presence of desert locusts was confirmed in Dera Ismail Khan, South Waziristan, North Waziristan, Lakki Marwat, Karak, Kurram and Khyber districts.
So far 37 lakh 36 thousand 208 hectares of land have been surveyed in the province while 45 thousand 320 hectares have been operated.
In the last 24 hours, an area of 130,417 hectares was surveyed in Balochistan while Khuzdar, Awaran, Noshki, Chaghi, Gwadar, Lasbela, Panjgur, Kharan, Washik, Quetta, Barkhan, Dera Bugti, Dikki, Harnai, Jaffarabad. Control operations were carried out on 3417 hectares in Jhal Magsi, Bolan, Kalat, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saif Ali, Kohlu, Loralai, Mastung, Musa Khel, Naseerabad, Pishin, Sibi, Sarab, Sohbatpur, Zhob and Ziarat districts.
The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) states that the locusts are present between Panjgur and Quetta, on the Pasni coast, in the Central Valley near Rohri, in the plains of Punjab and KP.
Locusts are increasing in all areas during May as the weather dries up, locusts are moving eastwards to the desert areas of Cholistan, Nara, and Tharparkar for summer breeding.
Moreover, locusts would gather in Balochistan, Punjab, and KP and relocate to Cholistan, Nara, and Tharparkar along the Pakistan border where they would lay eggs as soon as the monsoon rains begin.
