Karachi observes strike today over Maulana Adil’s murder

Traders kept business closed in Karachi today after the strike was called by Karachi Ulema Committee over the murder of Jamia Farooqia’s Maulana Adil Khan in the city, last week.

According to the details, Maulana Adil Khan and his driver were killed in an attack by unidentified men in city’s Shah Faisal Colony on October 10. Maulana Adil was buried at Farooqia University next to his father Maulana Saleemullah Khan.

Maulana Adil was the superintendent of Farooqia University, located in Shah Faisal Colony 4, and the son of the late Maulana Saleemullah Khan.

Maulana Adil Liaquat took his last breath at the Liaquat National Hospital. The hospital spokesman said that Maulana Adil died before reaching the hospital.

Businesses in the city are closed as the traders and businessmen in the city have expressed their support for the strike. Public transport is also suspended in the city.

On the other hand, police and Sindh Rangers have increased their patrolling to control over law and order situation in the city.

A group of prominent religious scholars on Wednesday said that they will support the call for today’s strike. They announced their support in the form of a joint statement.

Wifaqul Madaris Al-Arabia President Maulana Abdul Razzaq Iskandar, Qari Hanif Jalandhri, Maulana Qazi Abdul Rasheed, Maulana Anwaar Ul Haq Haqqani,  and others announced their support for the KUC’s strike.

They said that today’s strike is the starting point of a protest movement against the murder of Maulana Adil Khan.

They warned that if the government failed to arrest his murderers, they would opt for other forms of protest.
