Fire rips through Karachi’s Zainab market

KARACHI: Shops were damaged after a fire broke out on the third floor of the Zainab Market in downtown Saddar on Wednesday morning, BOL News reported.

Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui also informed about the situation and said in a Tweet “another case of fire has been reported near Zainab Market, Karachi. The fire brigade team of KMC is present at the site to control the situation.”

“Besides fire tenders, the snorkel is also present at the site. All efforts are being made by KMC fire officers and the administration to control the situation,” said the administrator.

Meanwhile, the traffic police has diverted the traffic flow through alternative routes.

Zainab Market is located on Abdullah Haroon Road in the Saddar area which is one of the busiest commercial hubs of Karachi.

Earlier this week, 250 shops were gutted in a fire that erupted in the Cooperative Market of Karachi’s Saddar area in the early hours of Monday.

Karachi Commissioner Iqbal Memon said that the blaze was “third grade”.

The affected shopkeepers alleged that the fire tenders arrived an hour after the blaze was reported. They added that if the firefighters had arrived earlier then major losses could have been averted.

The shopkeepers claim that the fire had erupted on the ground floor and spread to the first floor due to the huge stock inside the shops there.

Pakistan Navy fire tenders also participated in the firefighting operation.

A spokesperson of the Pakistan Navy said that the assistance was provided at the request of the civil administration.

The fire department officials said that they received the information about the fire early in the morning around 5 am.

“We had dispatched four fire tenders right after receiving the information, however, we enlarged the operation when we saw the intensity of the fire,” shared the officials.
