The 48th Session of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers has adopted an action plan on Jammu and Kashmir, envisaging greater coordination amongst the member states on this outstanding dispute.

Under the plan, the member states in their bilateral engagements with India will raise the Jammu and Kashmir dispute to advance a peaceful resolution in accordance with United Nations resolutions and underscore respect for the fundamental human rights of the Kashmiri people.

The OIC countries will coordinate their positions on peace and security, human rights and humanitarian dimensions of occupied Jammu and Kashmir at the United Nations and other international fora. They will lend their support for the continued monitoring of the human rights situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The OIC secretary general will raise the Kashmir dispute in engagements with various interlocutors, including international, regional and human rights organisations.

Meanwhile, the OIC has resolved to protect and promote common interests of member countries and support the just causes of Palestine, Kashmir and others.

In the Islamabad Declaration adopted at the conclusion of the two day 48th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Islamabad, the member countries resolved to unify efforts to address common challenges and leverage opportunities besides upholding the rights and interests of Muslim minorities in non-OIC countries.

The declaration vowed to pursue a shared vision for greater social, economic, scientific and technological development and integration within the Muslim world and beyond.

It proposed for convening a ministerial meeting, later this year or next, to evolve solutions, develop mechanisms and tools to prevent conflicts and promote peace.

The declaration welcomed the operationalisation of the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund.

It also welcomed the unanimous decision of UN General Assembly to proclaim March 15 as International Day to Combat Islamophobia as well as the Council of Foreign Minister’s decision to appoint a special envoy in this regard.
