ISLAMABAD: Taking notice of increase in wheat flour prices in the country, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday sought a report in this regard from the relevant ministers.
He directed to implement the prices of wheat fixed by the government across the country.
“We will not allow anybody to rob the nation. Provision of flour to the masses at the rates fixed by the government should be ensured,” he ordered.
PM Shehbaz directed the food security, ministries of industries and relevant departments to present him the report regarding implementation of the government orders.

On May 9, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet had accorded approval to revision of prices of flour and sugar to provide continuous relief to lower strata of the society from global inflationary pressure.
Its meeting was held in Islamabad with Minister for Finance and Revenue Miftah Ismail in the chair.
Under the new arrangement, the flour price had been reduced from 950 rupees 20 kg to 800 rupees 20 Kg, while Sugar price had been reduced from 85 rupees per kg to 70 rupees per kg.
The meeting had also ordered that discount of 190 rupees per kg on vegetable ghee would be continued. The government would continue to absorb the cost of subsidy for the benefit of common man, it had decided.
Earlier, Ministry of Industries and Production had submitted a summary on revision of the prices of Atta and Sugar under the Ramzan Relief Package-2022.
The committee had also directed the Utility Stores Corporation to continue to sell commodities at Ramadan relief package prices under Prime Minister’s Relief Package for the months of May and June 2022.
The meeting had allowed PASSCO to procure an additional quantity of 0.50 MMT with the CCL of 28.50 billion rupees and permitted Punjab Food Department to procure additional quantity of 1.00 MMT with the CCL of 145.50 billion rupees in the wake of low production of wheat in the country due to previous government’s failure to provide fertilizers to the growers on time. The chair had said that Sindh government would be allowed to procure additional quantity of wheat, once it meets the current procurement target.
