Water crises in Sindh continues

KARACHI: It is alarming to note that the water level at Guddu Barrage has further decreased from 72,000 cusic to 62000 cusic – recording over 51 percent shortfall, Bol News reported on Tuesday.
Sukkar barrage with the capacity of 57,000 cusic is now left with only 52,000 cusic.

Water Crisis in Sindh is rapidly worsening, posing a threat to residential use and drinking.

The water scarcity at Guddu barrage is more than 51%. In Sukkar Barrage, however, it is 35%. In Sindh, 35 percent of the province’s water requirements are unmet.

Abdul Aziz Soomro, the in charge of Control Room of Sukkar barrage has claimed that the depreciation of water will increase in coming days. Sindh may receive less water than before. This shortage will prolong till June 6.

Tarbela Dam is already on the dead level at 1398 Ft, which is the reason why Sindh is facing drought.

Due to the non-availability of water, the water gates can not be open from the Guddu Barrage to BS Feeder and from Sukkur Barrage to Rice Canal.
