ISLAMABAD: PTI chairman Imran Khan has felicitated Ahmad Nawaz, the survivor of the Army Public School (APS) massacre, on becoming president of the prestigious Oxford Union.
“Congratulations Ahmad Nawaz on being elected President of Oxford Union. This brave young man who survived the 2014 APS terrorist attack, is an inspiration for all,” he said in a tweet.
The former prime minister said Ahmad makes us all proud with his spirit and determination reflected in his continuing achievements.
In response, Ahmad Nawaz said it was an immense honour to be encouraged by Imran Khan. He hoped that the Pakistani leadership continues to support young people and provide opportunities.
“Young people can achieve unprecedented heights, if given opportunities! We shall rise together,” he added.

Ahmad Nawaz, who survived the horrific attack on APS Peshawar, has joined his duties as President of the prestigious debating society of Oxford University.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the inspirational journey of Ahmad Nawaz who has become the president of Oxford University’s prestigious debating society.
“Great honour and inspiring journey fuelled by determination and sheer willpower,” the prime minister tweeted. “He has set an example worthy of emulation by our youth. Pakistan is proud of you, Ahmad,” the prime minister said.

Ahmad Nawaz, in response to the tweet of the prime minister, thanked him for the words of appreciation.
“Thank you Prime Minister. An immensely huge honour to have your encouragement and to be able to inspire young people,” he said.
The young scholar said he looked forward to work for empowering people. “I’m eternally grateful for the support and look forward to working on empowering many more people through this platform! A surreal experience,” he said.
President Dr Arif Alvi congratulated Ahmad Nawaz on being elected as President of Oxford Union.
The president said that youth were the biggest hope of Pakistan. “We must register that despite all setbacks Pakistan will keep on shining and rising,” President Alvi said.
