KARACHI: Japanese Navy Ship Harusame (DD102) visited Karachi port on Friday.

According to the Pakistan Navy spokesman, on arrival at the port, the ship was received by senior Pakistan Navy officials, Japanese diplomatic staff and school students.

He said purpose of the visit was to promote professional relations between the two navies. At the end of the visit, joint exercises were also held between the two navies.

The spokesman said that the visit of the Japanese ship would further boost joint peace efforts in the region.

On May 20, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had launched MILGEM-class ship PNS Badar in Karachi, which had been jointly constructed by Pakistan and Turkey.

Addressing the launching ceremony, the prime minister had said relationship between Pakistan and Turkey was reaching new heights and both countries would continue to cooperate with each other in diverse fields.

He had said the MILGEM-class corvette ship PNS Badar was a sign of growing cooperation between Pakistan and Turkey. He had said it was a huge milestone towards self-dependence in the ship building industry.

Shehbaz Sharif had said, “Pakistan’s relations with Turkey date back to pre-independence times when Muslims of Sub-Continent started a movement for Caliphate in Turkey.”

He had also mentioned Turkey’s role during various natural disasters in Pakistan and thanked the Turkish government and its people for their love and help.

The PM had lauded the workmanship of the engineers and workers of the Karachi shipyard. He had also thanked the Turkish defence minister for attending the ceremony with his delegation.

Shehbaz, on the occasion, had announced an appreciation amount of Rs100 million for the workers and management of the Karachi Shipyard.

In a video message for the launching ceremony of the MILGEM-class corvette ship, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had said his country was ready to share its defence expertise with Pakistan.

He had said the MILGEM project was an indication for the developments to come. He had said the most modern weapons and sensors had been used to build the vessel.

Tayyip Erdogan had said various defence industry projects would be realised one by one gradually that would further strengthen friendship between the two countries.
