KARACHI: The Meteorological Department has forecast the first rain of the season. It said pre-monsoon rains are expected in Karachi on June 21 and 22.

Monsoon winds will start entering Sindh from June 21, the met department said.

“Thundershowers are expected across Sindh including Karachi from June 21 to 22. While, rain is expected in the megalopolis from Tuesday evening, June 21,” it said.

The department forecasted that there was a possibility of dusty winds and storm before rain. The rains are expected to continue till June 22 and there is a fear of urban flooding in the city.

The met department warned all the relevant organisations to take necessary measures.

Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasted hot and humid weather in Karachi on Sunday. Department predicted drizzle in the morning and evening.

As per details, the minimum temperature of the city has been recorded at 29 C and the maximum temperature is expected to be 36 degrees Celsius. However, air humidity was recorded at 79%.

According to the met office reports, the weather will remain cloudy today with chances of rain. Whereas, winds are blowing at the speed of 18 kilometers per hour.

The report says that many parts of the country are expected to face more rains in the pre-monsoon season this year while the first spell of monsoon rain in Karachi is expected from June 25. Meanwhile, Karachi will be partly cloudy today.

Earlier, heavy rains wreaked havoc in Lahore by killing at least three people and injuring as many more. It wreaked havoc on Lahore’s power transmission infrastructure too, tripping many feeders of the Lahore Electricity Supply Corporation (Lesco). For four hours, Mustafa Town and Education Town were without power. Flight operations at the airport were disrupted as was the electricity supply.
