KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in Karachi today (Sunday) after a strong monsoon system entered southeastern Sindh.
According to the Met Office, hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the country during the next 12 hours while Azad Kashmir, Punjab, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Lower Sindh and North-Eastern Balochistan are likely to receive showers with thunderstorms.
Karachi will remain partly cloudy while rain is also expected. The minimum temperature was recorded at 29.5 degrees Celsius today. The maximum temperature is expected to be 32-34 degrees Celsius while the air humidity is 75 percent.
The Met Office had warned that heavy falls could cause urban flooding in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Khuzdar, Ormara, Pasni and Gwadar till Tuesday evening.
The PMD had earlier forecast rain with thundershowers in Karachi on Saturday evening, but the chances has reduced due to changing weather conditions.
Chief Meteorologist Karachi Sardar Sarfaraz Ahmed said that a strong monsoon system is present in Rajasthan, East Sindh and Arabian Sea which may cause strong wind and rainfall in parts of Sindh and Balochisan.
He said a strong monsoon system from the Bay of Bengal has entered southeastern Sindh and may get some support from the Arabian Sea in the next 24 hours.
He said the new monsoon system can cause heavy to very heavy rains in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Hyderabad, Tando Muahmmad Khan, Tando Allayar, Dadu Jamshoro and Karachi districts during 3-5 July,
The Met Office had forecast moderate to torrential rains in Karachi from July 2 to July 6. It had said the intensity of the system would be at its peak from the afternoon of July 3 to July 5, during which thunderstorms could be expected.
