BRUSSELS: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and European Union Dr Asad Majeed Khan has underlined the importance of Pakistan and the EU coordinating more closely on Afghanistan.
Ambassador Asad Majeed Khan met the Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service Enrique Mora and discussed matters of mutual interest.
Bothe discussed the overall state of play in Pakistan-EU relations and exchanged views on regional and international issues.
Referring to the recent high-level contacts between the two sides, Ambassador Khan underscored that bilateral cooperation was on an upward trajectory in all spheres of cooperation.
Ambassador Khan expressed Pakistan’s willingness to further expand cooperation in political, economic, environmental, and security fields.
Highlighting the positive role played by the GSP Plus in the growth of bilateral trade, the Pakistani envoy emphasized that it has been an excellent win-win cooperation.
DSG Mora, while welcoming Ambassador Khan to Brussels stated that the EU considered Pakistan an important partner and was keen to further deepen the friendly ties between the two sides.
Earlier on June 25, a European Union GSP+ Review Mission delegation headed by Guus Houttuin met Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz. They discussed matters pertaining to the implementation of different conventions relating to GSP Plus.
Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz redressed the apprehensions of the European Union Review Mission and assured complete implementation on all conventions.
The chief minister apprised the Head of EU review mission about his foremost priority to safeguard the rights of women, minorities and other downtrodden segments of society.
He underscored child labour had been abolished from the brick kilns and 85,000 children had been admitted to schools and were imparted free education along with monthly scholarships.
He outlined that necessary legislation was made to empower the women and minorities by his party in the past. He expressed desire to further increase trade with the European Union countries.
