LAHORE: The Punjab Government has lifted restrictions imposed on the early closure of markets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz has lifted the ban on closing of markets and bazaars at 9PM across the province to facilitate the people and business community.

In a statement in Lahore, he said this decision is being implemented across the province till Eid-ul-Azha. He said the government has taken the decision for the convenience of people shopping in the markets.

Punjab Government also announced the “big news” on its official Twitter handle. “A big gift from Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz on big eid [Eid-ul-Azha] for the people and business community of the province,” the statement read.

According to the statement, the restriction to close markets across Punjab till 9PM has been lifted with immediate effect.

Earlier in June, the provincial government had directed all markets across the province to close at 9PM in a bid to conserve energy following a power crisis hitting the country.

The directives included shutting down markets, shops, and businesses at 9PM, marriage halls at 10 PM, and restaurants at 11PM.

However, traders were given special exemption on Saturdays. Time limitations do not apply to medical stores and other essential services.

The Sindh  government has also taken similar measures and announced the closure of markets by 9PM across the province over the worsening power crisis in the country.

It is to be noted that Eid-ul-Azha in Pakistan will be observed on Sunday, July 10.
