The PML-N is likely to formally present Hamza Shehbaz’s name in the Punjab Assembly today, sources revealed. In this regard, the PML-N also consulted with allied parties who agreed to nominate Hamza Shehbaz for the slot.
The PML-N is the majority opposition party in the Punjab Assembly. Hamza Shahbaz is currently in London on a private visit and is likely to come to Lahore this week.
Hamza Shehbaz had a short-lived stint as trustee chief minister after the PML-N lost the by-elections and eventually lost power in Punjab.
Hamza was elected as chief minister after then presiding Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari rejected votes by the PML-Q during the election.
The victory was short-lived after a three-member bench of the Supreme Court declared Deputy Speaker’s ruling in the Punjab Chief Minister election “illegal” and ruled that Pervez Elahi shall be the new CM of the province.
The apex court also nullified all appointments made by ‘trustee CM’ Hamza Shehbaz. The provincial cabinet which had taken oath only a day earlier was also dismissed and the Hamza lost from the clutches of power.
