ISLAMABAD: Earthquake waves of 5.4-magnitude shook Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and portions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday night, BOL News reported.

The National Seismic Monitoring Center (NSMC) determined that Afghanistan was the earthquake’s epicentre. The earthquake’s depth was 32 km, and its Richter scale magnitude was 5.4.

Since the earthquake, there have been no reported fatalities. It should be noted that earthquakes that are comparatively closer to the surface are likely to have negative long-term consequences on buildings.

Karachi was shaken by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 last December. The seismic specialists were astonished by the earthquake in Karachi because they had never before detected an earthquake of this power with an epicentre within the provincial capital city.

According to Pakistan Meteorology Division (PMD) Director Seismology Division, earthquakes of magnitudes somewhat greater than 3.1 have struck Karachi in the past, with their epicentres being outside of the provincial capital. While the epicenter of this earthquake was located near DHA, 15 kilometres north of Karachi.
