Solar Eclipse to begin at 3:41 PM today
The second partial solar eclipse of the year 2022 will take place in Pakistan today.
According to the Meteorological Department, it will be visible in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Western parts of Asia.
Meanwhile, this year’s solar eclipse will be visible in most parts of the country including Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta.
The partial solar eclipse will begin at 3:41 PM in Peshawar. It will be at peak at 5:10 PM and continue till sunset in Karachi.
Officials further said that sunlight in Karachi will decrease by 50%.
Notably, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth, casts a shadow on the Earth, or partially blocks the Sun’s light in some areas.
During a partial solar eclipse, the Moon and Sun are not in a perfectly straight line. So the moon does not completely cover the sun. This gives the sun a crescent shape. It looks like the moon has bitten the sun.
Renowned astronomer Dr. Muhammad Javed has appealed to the citizens not to observe the sun directly.
