Foreign Minister Bilawal says Pakistan, US reshaping partnerships in diverse fields

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday said Pakistan-United States relations were being reshaped with an emphasis on creating economic opportunities for both countries.

In an interview with MSNBC, he said with consistent engagement at high level and bilateral exchanges, the relations between Pakistan and the United States were moving ahead positively.

The foreign minister said, “We can build a sustainable long term partnership which is in the interest of people of both countries.”

Regarding the climate change and recent floods in Pakistan, he said Pakistan had started to prepare National Adaptation Plan for building resilience to climate change.

Foreign Minister Bilawal said to become a climate resilient country; the government needed to invest in energy transition which required international support.

Counting on the losses caused by recent floods that had washed away ten percent of Pakistan’s GDP, he stressed that adaptation was needed in a manner that if they face such catastrophe in future, they should be in better position to cope with it.

On December 16, Pakistan had said that it would not tolerate cross-border terrorism by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) or other terrorist groups and that the country reserved the right to take direct action against them.

“Pakistan will not tolerate such cross-border terrorism by the TTP or other terrorist groups, like the BLA, which are also receiving financial and other support from hostile quarters. We reserve the right to take direct action against them,” Foreign Minister Bilawal had said addressing an event at the UN Headquarters.
