LAHORE: PTI Chairman Imran Khan has announced to dissolve the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies on Friday, December 23.
He was addressing a public gathering in Liberty Chowk via video link flanked by Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan.
Imran Khan said the decision was necessary as free and fair elections are necessary for economic stability as the nation is sinking. “I fear the gang of thieves imposed on the country. Unless free and fair elections are not held, there will remain a fear that the country might sink,” he said.
He said businessmen have lost their investments and over 750,000 people including skilled workers have left the country in disappointment as the looters came to power. “You can ask any industrialist, labourer, and farmer; their finances cannot be managed amid the ongoing economic situation.”
He said they strived to improve the economy despite the coronavirus pandemic but the gains have not been lost in the past eight months. He said Pakistan witnessed economic growth during the three eras in the past but used to receive US assistance.
“Who brought the regime change against the government?” he questioned, adding that the risk of default has increased by almost 100 percent which has stopped foreign investments and remittances, reduced tax collection, and exports have declined.
He claimed that Pakistan witnessed 50-year high inflation after the incumbent government came into power. He mentioned that the economy witnessed a boost during his party’s government.
He said the government is delaying the elections as it fears defeat and is currently bringing down the economy. He said the government may not hold elections in October next year and will make some excuses with a biased election commission.
“The election commission is conniving with them. A very dishonest man is involved with them, who will tell them ways to delay election,” he claimed.
NRO 2
He said General (retd) Qammar Javed Bajwa conspired to bring down their government but they didn’t raise their voice to protect the image of the army.
He said the people supported them and came out in large numbers against the current government. He said the violence meted out against their party supporters and media were not even seen in dictatorial regimes.
“General Bajwa gave NRO 2 the gangs of thieves,” he exclaimed, adding that no country can progress without the rule of justice. He said Shehbaz Sharif faced open-and-shut money laundering cases while his son Salman Shehbaz has now returned.
He said they held talks with the government and the Azadi March was organized to pressurize them to hold elections. He said the only option was to accept the government or struggle against them.
Imran claimed said opinion poll suggests 70 percent of the people were demanding fresh elections, saying that is what the PTI had attempted to convince the government through its long march.
Imran Khan said he could have marched to Islamabad but instead chose to sacrifice their provincial assemblies. He thanked the chief ministers of both provinces for supporting him. He urged his supporters not disappointed as the struggle for holding free and fair elections has just begun.
