LAHORE: The joint investigation team (JIT) formed to probe the attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has summoned Faisal Vawda.

The investigation committee formed by the Punjab government to probe the assassination attempt on the former prime minister in Waziabad has included former PTI leader Faisal Vawda in the inquiry.

Vawda has been summoned to appear before the JIT on Saturday, 10 December, (tomorrow) along with documentary evidence supporting his claims.

The joint investigation team has also summoned 35 other PTI leaders including Yasmin Rashid, Hammad Azhar, Imran Ismail, Omar Sarfraz Cheema and Faisal Javed.

It must be mentioned that Faisal Vawda had addressed a controversial press conference on October 26 and claimed that the Azadi march will witness violence and cause bloodshed.

The PTI had taken exception to his remarks and terminated his membership from the party. The party first suspended his membership after he failed to respond to the show-cause notice issued to him on the day of his fiery presser.

PTI terminated Vawda’s basic membership from the party and said he would not be allowed to hold any party office or represent the party in the media as he had “grossly violated discipline by giving statements against party policies and guidelines”.

Imran Khan and several others were injured after an armed man opened fire when the Haqiqi Azadi march reached Wazirabad.

A joint investigation team – formed to probe the attack on Imran Khan on November 3, has been constituted under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
