Punjab Govt imposes environmental emergency to control smog
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday ordered the early closure of markets and restaurants in Lahore to control the smog.
The court has ordered the authorities to close the markets and restaurants by 10:00 pm daily as the smog conditions intensified in the region.
The order issued by the court granted a bit of relief for weekends and maintained that the restaurants be allowed to close at 11 pm on weekends.
On the other hand, the order also said that the school violating the orders of closure on Fridays must be sealed and directed to the education department to strictly ensure the implementation of orders.
Earlier, the Punjab government issued a notice for schools and private offices to remain closed thrice a week (Friday and Saturday) following court orders in this regard.
Pertinently, with the outset of winter, the areas of northern Punjab come under a thick layer of fog affecting daily life.
