Marriyum Aurangzeb says national emergency plan chalked out for energy conservation
ISLAMABAD: Marriyum Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, on Thursday said the government has chalked out a national emergency plan for energy conservation aimed at reducing import bill of the country.
The plan was devised at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Thursday.
Sharing detail of the meeting, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb, in a series of tweets, said the plan would be tabled in next cabinet meeting for final approval and all the chief ministers would be invited in the meeting. She said the plan would be implemented in consultation with the provinces.
The information minister said crackdown against electricity theft and conversion of government building on solar energy were part of the plan. She said the purpose of the plan was to reduce burden on masses and the economy.
“The plan will help save billions of dollars being incurred on import bill.”
She said extra ordinary measures were imperative under extraordinary circumstances. Every Pakistani had to play due role to cope up with this extra ordinary situation, she maintained.
On November 22, Marriyum Aurangzeb had said that acceptance of the demand for environmental justice at the global level was a major diplomatic success of Pakistan.
The establishment of a global fund to compensate the losses of countries affected by climate change was a victory for Pakistan’s stance and recognition of its stand, she had said in a statement.
“Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif turned the deadly effects of climate change on developing countries and flood disasters in Pakistan into the global agenda”, she had maintained.
She had said that Pakistan’s stand under the leadership of the prime minister played a decisive role in creating a global consensus on the issue. The establishment of ‘ Loss and Damage Fund’ will help in the rehabilitation of flood victims in Pakistan, she had remarked.
