Najam Sethi meets Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Lahore.
LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to replace Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja, BOL New reported.
Former PCB chairman Najam Sethi met the prime minister, who is also PCB’s patron-in-chief, in Lahore and discussed matters related to cricket. Sethi’s spouse and former MPA Jugnu Mohsin was also present.
They also discussed the restoration of the 2014 PCB Constitution and departmental cricket. Sources revealed that the prime minister said Najam Sethi should be PCB chairman.
According to reports, the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) has forwarded a summary to the prime minister regarding the appointment of Najam Sethi as new PCB chief and the restoration of the 2014 PCB Constitution.
Former cricketer Ramiz Raja was appointed as PCB chairman by the former prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan on September 13, 2021.
Najam Sethi first served as PCB chairman in 2013 when he was appointed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The Islamabad High Court ordered the appointment of an interim chairman until a pending case on the serving chairman Zaka Ashraf was decided.
Sethi relinquished chairmanship after Ashraf was restored after a legal battle He returned to charge in 2014 but Shahryar Khan was named chairman and Sethi was given the charge of the powerful executive committee. He was reappointed in August 2017.
Najam Sethi resigned as PCB Chairman when Imran Khan was elected prime minister. He was replaced by former ICC President Ehsan Mani.
