LAHORE: Speaker National Assembly (NA) Raja Pervez Ashraf on Sunday said that parliament is the only forum to overcome all the challenges of Pakistan.

He was talking to the media at the residence of General Secretary Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Punjab Syed Hassan Murtaza after the breakfast given by Hassan Murtaza in the honor of Raja Pervez Ashraf.

Speaker NA Ashraf said that parliament is the only forum where we can discuss all problems and find solutions to the problems faced by our country.

He said all political parties must join hands to bring the country out of economic mess.

The former premier maintained that we have to legislate and enforce rule of law to bring stability in the country’s politics.

While responding to the question, Ashraf said that there is a process of accepting resignations adding that if a member resigns under pressure, his resignation could not be accepted as per law.

The Speaker NA said that if the opposition wants free and fair elections in the country then they should take part in the legislation process.

“Like the government, the opposition is also very important,” he pointed out.

He opined that the assemblies must complete their term.

“All the politicians of the country, including Parvez Elahi, Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif are experienced. They have the capability of handling issues with consensus,” he stated while adding that the backdoor channels for negotiations always work.

‘Imran Khan wants presidential form of govt in the country’

Speaking at the occasion, General Secretary PPP Central Murtaza said former Prime Minister Imran Khan wants a presidential system instead of a parliamentary system in the country.

“Imran wants to abolish the parliamentary system and implement the presidential system,” he said.

For Murtaza, in the last four years, the media highlighted the scandals of Malam Jabba, Toshakhana and Al-Qadir University.

“Imran Khan’s era was the most corrupt era in the history of Pakistan,” the senior PPP leader said.

Murtaza alleged that even today Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) is forcibly taking lands from farmers in order to oblige their financiers.
