President Arif Alvi takes interest in bullet proofing, IED protection projects: ISPR
RAWALPINDI: President Arif Alvi took keen interest in ongoing research and development projects including bullet proofing and IED protection of military vehicles and manufacturing of tank and artillery gun barrels and systems.
The media wing of military, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said during his recent visit to the Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), President Arif Alvi was briefed on HIT’s technical capabilities, production activities, indigenisation efforts, major research and development projects and recently undertaken initiatives to improve efficiency of HIT.
He visited various factories and witnessed work on ongoing projects. He applauded HIT’s efforts to attain self-reliance through indigenisation and acquisition of modern technologies for combat vehicles and systems.
President Arif Alvi expressed his full confidence in capabilities of HIT and appreciated commitment of HIT to transform the organisation into a modern defence production establishment so as to adequately meet the requirements of armed forces and law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in line with the international standards.
On arrival, Lieutenant General Syed Aamer Raza, Chairman HIT, received the president.
On December 14, President Dr Arif Alvi had met PTI Chairman Imran Khan and discussed the political situation including the dissolution of the provincial assemblies.
The meeting was being keenly observed as the president was playing a key role in negotiating with the government after Imran Khan had announced to dissolve the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies.
Arif Alvi had arrived at Imran Khan’s residence in Zaman Park. He had informed the PTI Chairman about his meetings with PML-N leader Ishaq Dar.
He had also informed about his meeting with federal ministers Ayaz Sadiq and Azam Nazir Tarar earlier in the day during which the PML-N leaders conveyed the government’s stance on the political crisis.
