PESHAWAR: Awami National Party proposed the name of Zafarullah Khan for caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The ANP candidate is a former director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Zafarullah Khan is from Omarzai tribe in Charsadda and has also served as IG National Highway and Motorway Police.
He also served as Chairman National Counter Terrorism Authority and commandant of the Frontier Constabulary, besides holding other positions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other provinces.
Zafarullah Khan held numerous important assignments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police as well as in the Intelligence Bureau and FIA.
He remained DIG Police of Hazara and Mardan and SSP Peshawar during his 35 years of service. He was awarded the Pakistan Police Medal (PPM) on two occasions.
The opposition parties are currently being consulted over the interim chief minister. Moreover. the opposition’s legislative leadership in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly will meet soon as well.
Earlier, KP assembly was dissolved as Governor KP Haji Ghulam Ali signed the summary sent to him by Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan.
As per details, the governor KP signed the summary and instructed CM Mahmood Khan to retain the slot till the appointment of the new chief minister. Mahmood Khan will consult with the opposition leader on the caretaker setup.
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan sent a summary to KP Governor Haji Ghulam Ali for the dissolution of the provincial assembly.
The PTI chairman announced the dissolution of the assemblies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab in November last year. However, the plans were delayed due to consultations with allies and countermeasures adopted by the ruling allies in the centre.
