CM Punjab alerted PDMA for earthquake relief activities

• CM directed the departments to make all necessary preparations.
• Parvez Elahi directed authorities concerned to monitor the situation.

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has alerted the Provincial Disaster Management Authority(PDMA), Rescue-1122, and concerned departments relating to the provision of relief activities after a severe earthquake in various cities of Punjab.

He directed the concerned departments relating to the provision of relief activities to remain alert round the clock and keep a strict watch on the situation.

The CM directed the departments to make all necessary preparations and arrangements owing to any untoward situation.

Parvez Elahi directed authorities concerned to monitor the current situation 24/7 and update the required information every moment.

Earlier, an earthquake of 5.8 magnitudes on the Richter scale rattled Islamabad and several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, Bol News reported.

The tremors were felt in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Malakand, and Swat. Whereas, quakes were felt in Attock, Jhang, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Chiniot, and their surrounding areas in Punjab. People came out of homes reciting kalima. Jolts were felt in Azad Jammu and Kashmir too.

The seismological center said the depth of the earthquake was 178 km and its epicenter was Hindukash Region in Afghanistan.

On January 1, tremors had been felt in Mingora city of Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
