ECP has admitted delay in releasing LG election results.
ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has responded to the delay in releasing the results of the second phase of Local Government (LG) elections.
Director-General Monitoring of the Control Room in Islamabad said the results will be released after being compiled and sent to the provincial election commissioner.
He said the final results of ten wards have been received after verification in the central control room. After consolidating the results of various wards and town committees, they will be submitted to the provincial election commission office, he added.
He said elections were held on 4,412 wards in the second phase of the municipal elections in Sindh. which is responsible for delaying in releasing the results.
He admitted there has been a delay in the preparation of Form 11, said said the ECP’s teams are on site and busy consolidating results. Due to a large number of wards and towns in local bodies, the results are delayed.
Political parties have expressed concern over the delaying in releasing the unofficial and unconfirmed reports and the delay in submission of Form 11 and Form 11 by the presiding officers.
In Karachi, Deputy Commissioner District West has banned the media from entering the office of the District Returning Officer (DRO) to oversee the release of election results.
DC West said the ECP’s pass will not be accepted and journalist need the access pass from the Information Department. He said the complete results of union councils has not been released
He said the unofficial results are released by DRO and ECP staff from the DC’s office. The media is authorized to release unofficial and unconfirmed results only after Form 11 is submitted to the DRO.
In DRO Office District Korangi, the pace of releasing the election results was slow while media was also not allowed to enter for coverage. The DRO Office said they were working according to the given resources.
According to reports, media was prohibited from entering DRO’s office in all districts. A heavy contingent of police and rangers has been deployed outside the DRO offices.
The delay in releasing the result raised concerns and uncertainty among the workers of political parties. A large number of activists gathered outside ate DRO office and demanded releasing the results.
