- A court in Lahore approved the remand sought by Police
- Chaudhry was arrested from his residence in Lahore
LAHORE: The transitory remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry has been approved by a court in Lahore as requested by Islamabad Police.
The PTI leader was presented before the court by Islamabad police after being apprehended from his residence in Lahore in the wee hours on Wednesday.
Islamabad Police while seeking a transitory remand maintained that the former minister is to be taken to the federal capital.
After the nod by the court, Chaudhry is taken to the Services Hospital for a medical examination.
PTI leader was presented before the court of judicial magistrate Rana Mudassir where the prosecution sought a remand as the case against the former minister was lodged in the capital.
On the other hand, Fawad’s counsel argued that the police are seeking transitory remand so the PTI leader could be taken somewhere else.
Fawad’s lawyer also submitted that the distance between Islamabad and Lahore was of just four hours and there was no need for the transitory remand.
The lawyer argued that Fawad’s hands must be uncuffed and there should be a handcuff in only one of his hands.
On the other hand, the arrest has been challenged in the Lahore High Court and the petitioner maintained that the police at the time of arrest didn’t mention the charges against Fawad.
The petition maintained that the detention is illegal and requested the court to declare the arrest against the law.
