Imran Khan asks CJP to protect Fawad Chaudhry’s constitutional rights

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday wrote a letter to the chief justice of Pakistan asking him to provide protection to PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry under the constitutional rights, while under arrest, Bol News reported.

Imran Khan also referred to the custodial torture and inhumane treatment of PTI leaders Senator Azam Khan Swati and Dr Shahbaz Gill.

“I appeal to the chief justice of Pakistan, for his being custodian of the constitution, to protect honour and dignity of those arrested by law enforcers,” he said.

He said any step against honour and dignity of the arrested people or torture on them was violation of Articles 9, 10 and 14 of the constitution.

Earlier in a tweet, Imran Khan said taking Fawad to court handcuffed and head/face covered like a terrorist showed the low and vindictive levels the imported government and state had reached.

“The treatment of Fawad Ch, Azam Swati and Gill before him leaves no doubt in people’s mind that now we are a banana republic,” he tweeted.

He said the law of the jungle now prevailed where might was right and the Constitution and law of the land had been totally subjugated by the Pharaohs of today.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has slammed PTI Chairman Imran Khan for levying “baseless and dangerous” allegations against former president Asif Ali Zardari.

“Imran Niazi’s baseless and dangerous allegations against former President Asif Ali Zardari are not only irresponsible but also conform to a pattern of conspiracy theories meant to spread venom against his political opponents,” the prime minister in a statement on Twitter.

“Such nonsensical rhetoric is an attempt to remain politically relevant. The whole nation knows how he has used politics of hatred to divide the society for the sake of power.”

PTI chief Imran Khan alleged that Zardari had paid a terrorist outfit to assassinate him. He said the former president was among those who wanted to kill him.
