Mass Comm Dept of FUUAST becomes non-functional  

• The teachers of department are not conducting classes.
• The teachers are also not willing to guide students about course.
• The shortage of faculty put future of the student at the stake.

KARACHI:  The Department of Mass Communication of Federal Urdu University of Arts Science and Technology (FUUAST) has been dysfunctional since several years owing to internal politics  and shortage of faculty members.

According to the students of the department, the teachers were not conducting classes while a number of regular teachers were on official leave. Apart from a few classes, the classes of all major subjects were not being held while the students, after lodging too many complaints, were not heard by the varsity administration.

The students approached the Fuuast Acting Vice Chancellor and other top officials of the varsity but the issue of conducting regular classes at the department is yet to be resolved. The teachers of the department were also not willing to guide the students about course lines.

The enrolment of students has also decreasing with passage of time. The shortage of faculty members and internal politics have put future of the student at stake.

The Mass Communication Department is being run  by visiting and contract teachers as regular teachers general remained absent from duties. Sources at Mass Communication Department said more than six senior teachers have retired.

The students warned if the issue was not resolved they would demonstrate protest against the absent teachers in front of the Karachi Press Club

On other hand, Acting Vice Chancellor (VC) FAUUAST wrote a letter to the in-charge Department regarding unviability of university instruments.

Sources said costly laptop, mobile, and other equipments are in personal use of Head of Department and faculty members.  The students are deprived of the modern facilities.

Similarly, owing to the administrative crisis at the FUUAST, a number of departments imparting social sciences have been dysfunctional.
