QUETTA: “To bring peace and tranquility in society, media can play an important role and is an important stakeholder in the process.”  These words were shared by Shahzad Iqbal, Program Lead PACT from Shaoor Foundation who was also the lead trainer for the Regional Media Training Workshop for media representatives of Balochistan.

The event, happened on Thursday in Quetta, Balochistan, was a collaborative effort between Shaoor Foundation for Education and Awareness (SFEA), National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and Paigham-e-Pakistan.

This series of five trainings across all four provincial capitals of Pakistan and federal level aims to enhance capacity of more than 100 male & female media representatives on peace, tolerance, and inclusivity related issues within university campuses. This training also aims to develop four regional as well as a national level media advisory group that will generate meaningful debate in the media and positive policy intervention at provincial and national level.

Talking at the occasion, seasoned journalist Mir Behram Baloch lauded the efforts of Shaoor Foundation and called it “the first step” towards a better future. He said that events like these are the need of the hour and focusing universities is the perfect strategy to curb the menace of extremism and intolerance. Those who also spoke at the event include Mr. Usman Razzaq, senior reporter Manzoor Ahmed from ARY News and Zafar Baloch from Bol News.

On December 26, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, had said that the government was taking all possible measures for the welfare of journalists.

Congratulating the newly elected office bearers of Lahore Press Club, Marriyum Aurangzeb had said the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) government fully believed in freedom of speech and independence of the press.
