KARACHI: The Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has postponed the protest rally demanding fresh delimitation before the Local Government elections in Karachi.

The protest rally will now be on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. The party had earlier announced a protest rally on January 9. The protest will be held outside the office of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as previously announced.

It must men mentioned that efforts are underway to reunite the various factions of the MQM. Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has been playing a key role in reuniting the party.

MQM Convenor Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui will meet estranged party leader Dr Farooq Sattar in an attempt to resolve differences.

The MQM leader will visit Farooq Sattar’s residence along with a delegation on Sunday evening. The meeting is being viewed with keen interest ahead of local bodies’ election.

The MQM has decided to protest against conducting Local Government elections in Karachi without fresh delimitations of constituencies.

The MQM has expressed its displeasure over the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for not conducting the delimitations before the polls. It has also raised serious concerns over the non-implementation of the agreement signed with the provincial government.

Last week, MQM Rabita committee held a meeting and decided to protest over not conducting the delimitations. The MQM coordination also discussed the ongoing political situation.

During the meeting, MQM leaders expressed their displeasure over the statement of PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for holding the polls. The party also mulled approaching the courts over the matter.

MQM leaders expressed frustration about being part of the coalition governments and the prolonged delay in implementing the agreement. It must be mentioned that LG elections are scheduled to be held on January 15.
