PM consults political leaders for caretaker CM Punjab

• Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif  consulted top political leaders
• He called former president Zardari and PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman
• He also called PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday telephoned political leaders to hold consultations on the name of caretaker chief minister of Punjab.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said the prime minister consulted the top leadership of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

In a tweet, she said that the PM called former president Asif Ali Zardari and PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. He also called Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain

The prime minister also held consultations with the ally parties leaders on the political situation of the country, she said.

Earlier PML-N leader Malik Ahmad Khan said the prime minister would discuss PML-N’s nominees for Punjab caretaker chief minister with Zardari and the list would be forwarded to the governor.

Malik Ahmed is representing Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz during the consultation for setting up the interim prime minister.

A day earlier, Malik Ahmed Khan contacted Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi for consultations over the interim setup Elahi said that they had proposed names that would also be acceptable for the PML-N.

The PTI and PML-Q has already forwarded the three names for the post of interim chief minister to the governor for the post.

It has recommended the names of Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera, Naseer Ahmed Khan, and Nasir Mahmood Khosa’s names to Governor Punjab Baligh Ur Rehman as their nominees for caretaker CM.

The Punjab Governor acknowledged receiving the names and said from Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi which  have been forwarded to Hamza Shehbaz Sharif. He said both leaders jointly agree on any name within the stipulated period.

The PML-N was unable to finalize and send names to the Punjab governor for the province’s caretaker chief minister. PML-N had also agreed on the name of the former president Supreme Court Bar Association Ahsan Bhoon but he has excused himself from assuming responsibility.
