ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif  said UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Nahyan is a friend, benefactor and does not back down from helping Pakistan.

He further added Saudi Arabia and UAE have unique historical relations with Pakistan. UAE is like a second homeland for Pakistanis, he added.

The prime minister arrived in Saudi Arabia on Thursday for a three-day visit — his first official foreign trip since assuming office on April 11.

“Our two countries have had this special bond for seven decades now. It is now our earnest desire to transform this relationship into a deep, diverse and mutually beneficial strategic partnership,” Sharif said in a written interview.

“The very fact that I went to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on my first visit abroad, reflects the high importance that Pakistan attaches to its special relationship with Saudi Arabia.”

The prime minister stated that both nations were now trying to explore fresh and unusual areas of bilateral collaboration, with an emphasis on fostering economic, trade, and investment connections.

Sharif stated that Pakistan had strong relations with both nations and hoped that peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv will start soon, despite the fact that the majority of the world is still concerned about the situation in Europe following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“The conflict reflects failure of diplomacy. There is a need for immediate cessation of hostilities, sustained dialogue, and continuous diplomacy,” he added. “A diplomatic solution in accordance with relevant multilateral agreements, international law, and the provisions of the UN Charter is indispensable.”

Although Pakistan has voted against several UN resolutions that denounce the invasion that began in late February, Sharif said it “supports all efforts to provide humanitarian relief to civilians in the affected areas.”

He added that Islamabad had sent two C-130 planes to bring aid to the Ukrainian people and was considering sending additional supplies as a gesture of solidarity.

“The conflict was not in the interest of anyone, especially the developing world.”
