Pakistan to complete terms of IMF’s programme: prime minister
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting to review Covid-19 situation in the country on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured 100 percent anti-Covid-19 vaccination of children aged five to twelve years on an emergency basis.
He said that the screening of people at the country’s borders and airports should be made more effective, a third-party audit of the screening system should be conducted and a report submitted to him.
Expressing satisfaction over the Covid-19 situation in the country, the Prime Minister said that no death due to the pandemic has been reported in Pakistan in the last fortnight, which is a welcome development.
He also expressed satisfaction with the low rate of Covid-19 infections but said that we have to be prepared all the time.
Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the efforts of all concerned authorities and NCOC to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
It was reported that there is no apparent threat to Pakistan from the new form of Covid-19 as 90 percent of the country’s population has been fully immunized and ninety-five percent of the population has been partially vaccinated.
The meeting was informed that the vaccination rate among the 35 million children aged 5 to 12 years is 25 percent, which will be increased to 100 percent in the coming months. The average infection rate in Pakistan is 0.2 to 0.5 percent and there have been no deaths from the epidemic during the past fortnight.
