PMA deeply concerned over warning issued by HDA
KARACHI: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) is deeply concerned over the warning issued by the Healthcare Devices Association (HDA) that there could be serious disruption of medical and surgical treatment facilities across the country after the recent restriction of making registration with the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) mandatory for the import of medical and surgical equipment.
According to the HAD, the DRAP extended the time for registration till December 31, 2022, after which all unregistered medical devices and laboratory tests cannot be imported legally and sold from January 1, 2023.
This ban on the import of medical and surgical equipment and machinery can put our health delivery system into crisis in the provision of medical facilities to the sick people.
Our health delivery system is already in shambles and shortage of medical devices will take the situation from bad to worse. If the suitable measures are not taken to avoid this disruption, we are scared that situation will lead to health disaster in the country.
The PMA demanded the government to take appropriate measures immediately to avoid any ugly situation in upcoming days to save the lives of innocent people of Pakistan.
On December 31, PMA Secretary General Dr Abdul Ghafoor Shoro had said although Corona situation in the country was under control and positivity ratio of Covid-19 was 0.5% however because of detection of new variants in some countries the government should become more vigilant and take all the required preventive measures to avoid spread of new variants in the country.
