SC issues notice to ECP on Imran Khan & Sheikh Rashid’s plea
The Supreme Court (SC) has issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on the petitions of Imran Khan and Sheikh Rashid in the matter of overseas Pakistanis voting on Wednesday BOL News reported.
According to the details, the case of giving the right to vote to overseas Pakistanis was heard in the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Election Commission on the petitions of former prime minister Imran Khan and former Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed, as well as to the Attorney General and NADRA for assistance.
As per details, Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan also issued a notice on the appeal of lawyer Dawood Ghaznavi against the amendment of the Election Act and remarked that the right to vote has not been abolished, the problem is only procedural.
Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan said that apparently the voting procedure has been made so difficult that the overseas could not vote.
The petitioner’s lawyer said that the Supreme Court in its decision had given the right to vote to overseas Pakistanis. The amendment of the Election Act is against the spirit of the judicial decision.
Arif Chaudhry Advocate took the stand that NADRA created the system on the order of the Supreme Court and it was tested in the by-elections. There was no objection to the experiment in the by-elections, it was modified and asked to do the pilot project again so that the legislation could be enacted.
Notably, the court further adjourned the hearing for two weeks and said that NADRA and the Election Commission should support whether the built system is up to standard or not.
