SC larger bench to hear Arshad Sharif case on Jan 5
KARACHI: The Supreme Court has fixed the suo moto case of murder of veteran journalist Arshad Sharif for hearing on January 5, Bol News reported on Monday.
The five-member larger bench headed by the chief justice would hear the case at 1:00pm on Thursday. The apex court has sought interim investigation report from the special joint investigation team.
The SC registrar has issued notices to the respective parties.
On December 14, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Murad Saeed had recorded his testimony before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to probe the killing of senior journalist Arshad Sharif.
The special JIT had held its fourth meeting at the City Police Office (CPO) Headquarters in Islamabad. The statement of four persons were recorded in the meeting as part of the investigation.
PTI leader Murad Saeed had also appeared before the JIT. He had provided all information regarding the threats by Arshad Sharif.
The JIT had also decided to summon others including PTI leader Ali Zaidi and former federal minister Faisal Vawda in the probe.
On December 13, the special JIT had a detailed briefing from the fact-finding committee formed by the government to investigate the high-profile case,
The SJIT had also drawn a list of witnesses other than Arshad Shari’s family to record their testimonies. The JIT was unable to meet with Arshad Sharif’s mother due to her ill health.
