A security high alert has been issued in Islamabad and Karachi after a blast at a mosque in Peshawar martyred 58 worshippers and left dozens wounded.

Sindh Rangers have tightened the security at mosques and imambargahs in Karachi and started conducting snap-checking and patrolling to maintain law and order.

DG Rangers ordered the deployment of the paramilitary at sensitive locations and tightened security in religious places of worship across the city.

Law-enforcement agencies have also been instructed to tighten security measures at all religious places including mosques and imambargahs.

Rangers have been instructed to conduct a joint combing operation of suspicious areas with police. DG Rangers Sindh also issued instructions to the sector commanders

The public has been instructed to remain vigilant and issue any suspicious person to Rangers’ helpline 1101. Public can report on Rangers WhatsApp number 0347-9001111

The development came after a suicide blast in Peshawar’s Police Lines mosque claimed the lives of at least 58 people and wounded more than 157 others.

Earlier in the day, the Islamabad police also placed the security on high alert after the deadly explosion in Peshawar.

Inspector-General Police (IG) Islamabad Dr Akbar Nasir Khan ordered to declare a security high alert. Islamabad Capital Territory police tightened security and checking at entry and exit points of the federal capital.

Police are also monitoring the situation from cameras at the Safe City project. Snipers have been deployed at sensitive installations and buildings.  Islamabad Capital Police is equipped with thermal imaging capability.

Citizens have been instructed to carry their identity cards and important documents while traveling and cooperate with police during checking.
