PPP and PTI activists clashed outside DRO Kemari office.
KARACHI: Several people including media workers were injured as activists of the PPP and PTI clashed outside the DRO Office in Korangi.
The PTI was holding a protest outside the office of District Returning Officer (DRO) Korangi against the results of the Local Government elections in Karachi. They were demanding that election results should not be altered to prevent rigging.
According to reports, PPP activists allegedly attacked PTI workers outside Deputy Commissioner Kemari’s office as a clash ensured between workers of both parties.
The protest turned into a battleground as the activists of both parties pelted stones at each other. A PTI worker was seriously injured in the incident, while PPP workers also entered and vandalized the DRO Office.
Bol News cameraman was also injured while the enraged protestors also attacked media workers of another media channel. The windows of a mosque were also broken near the DRO Office.
A large contingent of police force was deployed but failed to prevent the clash. Police eventually controlled the situation and closed the gate of deputy commissioner’s office.
The PPP workers also attacked PTI Sindh President Ali Zaidi who arrived to address the workers. PTI leaders Bilal Ghaffar, Saeed Afridi and others are also present but suddenly left after PPP activists raised slogans against them.
Chief Election Commissioner took notice of the clashes outside DRO office in Karachi. Election Commission officials contacted Chief Secretary Sindh and Inspector General Police Sindh and asked to ensure the safety of ballot papers and voting materials.
Speaking to BOL News after the incident, PTI Karachi President Bilal Ghaffar said the clashes were preplanned to disrupt their peaceful protests. He said they have protesting outside the DRO Office since yesterday before being violently attacked.
PTI leader Ali Zaidi said they were demanding to release the results as per the Form 11 but instead they were attacked. He said the PPP planned the attacked party activists and media workers as it has lost the elections.
The election commission has sought a report from the provincial election commissioner on the incidents. Another similar protest was also held outside DRO West Office.
A controversy has ensured after the local government elections in Karachi. The PTI has rejected the results and is holding protests outside the DRO offices in several parts of the city.
