KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said Friday the Sindh government has the authority to issue or withdraw the notification regarding the delimitation.

He said that ECP, courts, and the local government all have their own jurisdictions and no one can interfere with the authority of the other.

Sharjeel Memon was inaugurating the first Electrical Vehicle (EV) bus service for the citizens of Karachi.

He was talking to media while introducing the service and said that it is the first of its kind in Pakistan and has been a present for the Karachiites from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

“The buses are environment friendly and are chargeable.”

He also said that PPP has been trying to facilitate the people as much as possible adding that the political party is adamant to provide the best transportation services in the province.

While touching on the issue of LG polls in Karachi, he said that Sindh government felt that a few parties had reservations over the delimitation and wanted to give equal field for the parties to run in the elections.

“We took the notification back at the request of MQM which is the jurisdiction of the local government. ECP cannot interfere in the matters of Sindh government.”

The minister also said that the provincial government wrote to the federation for the security personnel to which they were informed that the army personnel are busy on the borders.

“It has been said that Sindh has threat alerts and there is a requirement of 62,000 police officers for the elections which seems impossible for now as a lot many personnel are still serving in the flood-affected areas.”
