KARACHI: A woman was shot dead upon resistance to robbery in Block 17, Gulistan e Johar area of Karachi, on Thursday.

The robbers opened fire on the woman while she was sitting in her car. The victim has been identified as Sana Tariq.

Police said the woman had come with her brother to the medical store. An eye witness said the culprits opened fire on the woman and fled away. He said purse of the woman was fallen outside the vehicle.

Senior Superintendent Police East and Superintendent Police Gulshan reached at the site of the incident. The SSP East said the incident appeared to be of a resistance to robbery. He said cell phone of the woman was missing. Statements of more eye witnesses were being recorded, he maintained.

Police have taken vehicle of the victim into custody and saved the crime scene.

Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Ashraf Qureshi said police seemed to be completely failed in controlling the rising number of crimes in the megalopolis.

On September 17, 2022, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Javed Alam Odho had urged businessmen and industrialists to set up CCTV cameras across the city and help the police in fighting crime.

The Karachi police had visited the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) at the invitation of Zubair Motiwala, Javed Jaskani, Younis Memon, Majeed Memon, and other businessmen to discuss the law and order situation and rising street crimes in the city. Senior officers of Karachi Police, DIG West, DIG Traffic, and others were also invited.
