14 passengers killed, 65 injured in Kallar Kahar bus accident

At least 14 people were killed and 65 others injured when a bus overturned due to tyre burst near Kallar Kahar in Chakwal, on Sunday night.

The bus was en route to Lahore from Islamabad, carrying passengers for a wedding ceremony.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the accident and condoled with the bereaved families of the deceased. In his condolence statement, he said that he was deeply saddened by the accident.

The prime minister directed to provide best medical facilities to the injured. He prayed for patience for the families and speedy recovery of the injured.

The Motorway Police spokesperson said three people were still stuck inside the bus and attempt was being made to retrieve them by cutting the bus.

The spokesperson said the bus overturned due to speeding. Two cars and one Suzuki pickup coming from the opposite direction also damaged in the mishap. The police and Rescue 1122 rescued the injured, even though they faced difficulty due to night.

Meanwhile, Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman expressed sorrow over loss of precious lives near Kallar Kahar Salt Range as the bus carrying participants of wedding overturned. He condoled the heirs of the dead and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.

On February 8, as many as 30 people were killed and several others injured in the deadly road accident near Chillas, Gilgit Baltistan.

A bus carrying 45 passengers had collided with a car on Karakoram highway near Kohistan’s Shatial area. Following the deadly collision, both vehicles had plunged into a ravine.

The police and rescue officials had rushed to the site and shifted the injured and the bodies to the RHC Hospital.

The rescue teams were facing difficulties in rescue operations due to darkness.
