25 passengers dead in the bus accident near Diamer
GILGIT: At least 25 passengers were killed and dozens others were injured in a bus accident near Ghizir in district Diamir of Gilgit-Baltistan, Bol News reported.
The accident occurred when a bus carrying 45 passengers collided with a car and fell into a deep ravine, rescue officials said, resulting in the death of at least 25 passengers.
The ill-fated bus was heading from Ghizer to Rawalpindi when the incident happened near Habran Nala Kohistan on the Karakoram Highway near Chilas.
Rescue teams and police reached the spot and shifted the injured and the dead bodies to a nearby hospital. The rescue teams faced immense difficulties in recovering the victims due to darkness.
Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khurshid expressed deep sorrow and regret over the devastating bus accident and ordered using all available resources for the rescue operation.
The chief minister directed the administration, health department, rescue 1122, and other relevant institutions to help save the lives of the accident victims.
He also ordered the setting up of a special control room for better coordination and monitoring of emergency response in an accident.
Moreover, the chief minister has directed to send doctors and medical staff from Gilgit if necessary. He instructed Deputy Commissioner Diamer to reach the spot immediately with the staff and monitor the situation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep shock and grief over the tragic road accident causing loss of precious human lives.
He prayed for the departed souls and expressed his condolences with the bereaved families. He also prayed for the early recovery of injured and directed the authorities concerned to provide all possible medical aid
President Dr Arif Alvi condoled over the loss of life in a bus acciden and sympathised with the bereaved families. He also prayed to Allah Almighty for peace of the departed souls and early recovery of the injured.
Former President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his sorrow over the loss of lives in the traffic accident in Diamar. Zardari expressed his sympathy and condolences to the families of the deceased
PPP Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also expressed regret over the traffic accident. He offered condolences to the families of those lost their lives in the accident.
